Artist, Laura Alton has always had a passion for animals. As a young girl, she brought home numerous homeless animals to raise. As an adult, this trend has continued and grown. Laura volunteers with Great Dane Rescue of North Texas and her house has been the home to 3 Great Danes. She has donated numerous hours to rescue organizations, as well as many pieces of her art to animal rescue groups for fundraisers over the years.
Still looking for what truly inspired her life, Alton turned to painting and dedicated her business to her first Great Dane, Lucy. Everyone that knew Lucy, or even knew of her, knew the antics, trials, and tribulations that she had, and loved her even more for them. Although Lucy has crossed over the rainbow bridge, her unwavering spirit and love will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her. Her right front paw print now adorns the logo of Laura’s art.
Whether provided by a client, or photographed personally by Alton, all of Laura’s paintings begin from a photograph.
Using the latest technology, Laura’s canvas is a computer screen, her paintbrush is a stylus, and her palette appears on the screen. All paints are digital, but are mixed just like traditional oil or acrylic.
Laura utilizes a Wacom tablet and stylus to hand paint, stroke by stroke, all of her works, starting with the background and working in toward the eyes.
The final work is done on the eyes, the central detail of the painting, where the spirit of the pet lies.
The pet portrait is then uploaded to a professional lab, sprayed onto a canvas, and then finished either on a gallery wrapped canvas to be hung without framing, or on a flat canvas shipped ready for framing.
An acrylic gel may be used as a final touch to add texture to the work.
Laura’s pet photography and custom pet portrait service is located in the Dallas, TX area, but work can be done from anywhere, anytime.
It is advantageous that all of the work prior to delivery can be done via email.
